Disposable vapes are the easiest way to get started — no coils to change, no e-liquid to refill, nothing to charge in most cases. But “easy” doesn’t mean “one size fits all.” Here’s what to actually look at before you pick one from the shelf.
1. Puff count
Puff count is the manufacturer’s estimate of how many draws you’ll get before the device runs out. It’s a rough guide, not a guarantee — your actual count depends on how long and how often you puff. If you’re trying disposables for the first time, a mid-range puff count is usually the safer choice: enough to properly judge the flavour and feel, without committing to the largest (and priciest) option before you know what you like.
2. Nicotine strength

3. Flavour
This is the fun part, and also the most personal. Fruit and menthol/ice blends are the most popular starting points because they’re easy to place — you roughly know what to expect. Dessert and more complex flavour profiles are worth trying once you’ve got a baseline.
4. Battery and build
Most disposables are single-use with a built-in battery sized to last roughly as long as the e-liquid does. If a device advertises a very high puff count, check whether it’s rechargeable — some higher-capacity models need a top-up partway through to actually reach the number on the box.
A quick checklist before you buy
- Pick a puff count that matches how often you’ll actually use it, not the biggest number available.
- If you’re switching from smoking or from a different nicotine product, start at a strength you already know, not a guess.
- Start with one or two flavours rather than buying a large batch of something untested.
- Check the device is rechargeable if the puff count is high — otherwise you may not get the full advertised use out of it.
